I don't know if this is fall out from my afternoon spent next to the incarcerated or from the really good dinner I just had at Athens restaurant, but I'm thinking about my last meal.
Note: If I AM on death row, I was framed. Or, it was justifiable homicide because I murdered a co-worker for saying, "we need to find some synergies and robustify our processes" (and pronounced it "praw-ses-zees" like making it more syllables means he's smart).
But just in case, framed or not, I want that last meal to be good:
Platanos con crema
Black beans and rice
2 butter tarts (homemade, not store bought)
and a pitcher of Perpetual Motions
No vegetables, but I'm guessing that fiber consumption won't be uppermost in my mind.
So, what do you desire for YOUR last repast? I wasn't going to name names, but my Blushman threw down the gauntlet with his post today, so I'm asking. Pretty please, post your last meal in a comment. Who knows? I might even make it for you!
I would love to hear from (in alphabetical order because this is supposed to be a democracy):
Ahamos
Aimless
Connie
CrankyOldBastard
Evelyn
Manda
Mum
My Blush, Aeleope
Patty
Stephano
Val
Wombat
And of course, Anonymous
Tell all your single friends, JamieSmitten is morbidly curious about your culinary cravings.
XO, JamieSmitten

so is robustifying anything like diane keaton saying "redensifying" in the moisturizer commercial? i swear i can't believe she says that with a straight face.
my last meal would be compiled from various establishments:
black bean dip and chips from gloria's in fort worth
shrimp corn chowder and blue corn chip covered tilapia from sundown cafe in atlanta
one sweet whirled ben & jerry's ice cream, resurrected from the flavor graveyard
a smidgeon of mum's banana pudding
canada dry ginger ale
burp
I remember that soup in Atlanta -- it was amazing!! I think I'd eat your last meal too.
Tres Leches cake from Kuba Kuba. I'd eat the whole freakin' cake.
Shrimp and Grits from Charleston, SC, and Apple Pie a la mode.
And it would be because my coworkers wanted to "Revisit our annual goals" (the ones we haven't met) "to evaluate whether they are consistent with our corporate vision" (or whether there's any freakin' way we're ever going to meet them) "so that we can ensure cohesiveness with the various work teams and all begin to work on the same page."
(Translation to that last part - we're all working on competing projects, and yours is beating mine, so somehow I need to get you on my team so I can continue to not do anything productive.)
Pajiba, my web treehouse hangout, had the same question for its afternoon comment diversion a while
ago. At the time my brain seized up and I couldn't think of anything interesting to post.
But now I can:
Bottle of Luna de Luna wine. Preferably one of their red blends. It's the Amos old faithful wine.
Those incomparable soft and tasty rolls Mrs. Hollins used to make for us campers at Oak Hill. They will bring back happy childhood memories.
Main dish would be a muffaletta from Central Grocery in NOLA. To remind me of my travels with Husband and the great fun we have managed to have together for so many years.
The sweet potato dish my mom makes with pineapples and marshmallows to make me think of my family.
The broccoli casserole that also happens to be my mom's but that P'Nut always asks me to make for his annual Thanksgiving dinner party. To remind me of good times with my friends.
For dessert, a chunk of Ukrop's birthday cake, preferable a corner piece with a couple of fat icing roses. So many celebrations in my life have been enjoyed with that cake that it has its own thread in my brain's memories.
Finally, a cup of good coffee (Starbuck's Pike Place blend perhaps) with a cinnamon raisin biscuit from Hardee's. My maternal grandparents loved drinking coffee and Hardee's. They even had a set of Hardee's coffee mugs.
To cleanse my palate, a rose pastille. I fell in love with those candies when I was 14. Same time I first fell in love.
Nothing in my meal to remind me of Alastair because honestly, I were eating my last meal, he'd be on my mind the whole time.
Interesting convergence...
We were just discussing serial killers at work yesterday when I stumbled upon John Wayne Gacy's last meal. A few hours later, you posted this.
I'm not sure what I'd want. It would probably be very "in the moment".
There are some foods that I enjoy a whole lot, but if I had to pick one specific group of food, I'd say Thanksgiving dinner, as done by my family for the last 30 years or so (with a touch of Chris Harper tossed in):
Turkey (fried!) & gravy
sweet potato casserole
burnt-to-a-cinder stuffing patties
green-bean casserole
warm rolls
unidentifiable casserole #1
unidentifiable casserole #2
corn pudding
pumpkin pie
pound cake
sweet tea
Mmmm...yummy.
Stephano Anonymous,
I completely forgot about tres leche cake from Kuba Kuba. Here's hoping we got arrested together and share a cell. : )
JoeyJTV,
Clearly you work in corporate hell as I do. Stay away from sharp objects during those interminable meetings is my advice.
Manda,
You'll need to start a day ahead in order to enjoy all that food. And I'll remember the Ukrops corner piece lust...
Ahamos,
So few people could link me to a serial killer and get away with it. Your meal sounds tasty, although I prefer hot buns to warm rolls.
Thanks for playing everyone!!
Valerie, my favorite lurker!
I was already definitely coming to visit you in Portland next year (spring-ish), but you have upped the ante with Naaz Khatoon. I can't wait to try it! And you even spelled it correctly! : )
Southern fried chicken (in lard, what the hell) black eyed peas and cornbread.
Washed down with a bottle of my favorite merlot (at the time of the execution.)
And then some beat juice so that my feces came out red and icky as I died...
